How to Spend a Weekend in Newport Beach

From paddle boarding to aquatic adventures, along with beach walks, art tours, cultural venues and live entertainment, Newport Beach has a little something for all kids, couples and solo travelers. Here is a list of fun activities you must experience during your ultimate vacation to Newport Beach in California.

Day One

Morning

The Balboa Fun Zone, Southern California’s oldest amusement area, was built in 1936. It offers a great ride on their waterfront Ferris wheel. The Fun Zone also includes plenty of retail shops and restaurants for those who are worn out after a hectic stroll along the boardwalks of the beach. You can spend hours being mesmerized by the sweeping views at the harbor fronts, and still want to return. Visitors heading to Balboa Fun Zone can take the ferry from Balboa Island.

Afternoon

With its gnarly waves, The Wedge is a hot spot for advanced surfers, and the best to time to surf is during the summer and fall seasons. If you’re still in Balboa Island for lunch, sample the Italian cuisine at Ciao Italian Restaurant or Basilic Restaurant for a French dine-in.

Evening

For a romantic night out, take a gondola ride through the Newport Harbor where you can also enjoy some magnificent views of the sun setting below the horizon. The nightlife on the Island is something you must check out. Experience the bar scene first-hand in the most happening part of town. Some of the most popular bars in Newport Beach are 21 Oceanfront and The Cannery, that also offers stunning waterfront views. You can choose to stay at any of the hotels in the Island like the Island Hotel Newport Beach or The Resort at Pelican Hill, which are within easy reach.

Day Two

Morning

Have a light breakfast and head to Crystal Cove State Park, where you can stroll along the 3.25 mile Pelican Point Trail. The park also has a huge underwater park, perfect for scuba divers and snorkelers. Visitors who prefer outdoor activities must also consider biking and hiking the Chaparral Canyon in El Moro, located on the southern edge of the Cove State Park.

Afternoon

The Crystal Cove Shopping Center offers a range of food options like Mastro’s Steakhouse, a favorite among the locals. You can also try paddle boarding and kayaking at the Newport Aquatic Center in the Back Bay.

If you have time, make a visit to the Orange Coast winery to sample 6 different wines along with cheese and crackers during the wine tasting session. Visiting the Orange Coast Winery means you’ll also get to experience the countryside of Newport Beach. Happy hours are held from 4-6pm on Fridays; an early booking is recommended.

Evening

In Corona Del Mar, The Fashion Island is a premiere shopping destination featuring high-end boutique shops and designer-wear stores. While you’re busy shopping, be sure to check out the Corona Del Mar Farmers Market to grab some locally produced goodies.
